On our trip through Kenya and Tanzania we experience all the magic of East Africa. So we discover intensely the most beautiful protected areas in both countries, especially Samburu National Reserve, Masai Mara and the world famous Serengeti.

At the side of our experienced tour guide we will experience an unprecedented wildlife: We observe lions lazy sunbathing in the grass after an overnight raid  or admire herds of elephants majestically roam the grasslands. If then in the evening the sunset colors the land in fiery red, we sit around the campfire and listen to the great stories of the Masai. Other highlights are on our way: we discover the Ngorongoro Crater (UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site) and the crater landscape of the Rift Valley with its many lakes and the colorful birdlife.

Or we walk through wild Africa, learn about the life of the Masai and watch fishing on Lake Naivasha. A special treat awaits at the end of the tour for us: The still surrounded by a myth island of Zanzibar. Ships from around the world anchored here until the 19th century to trade in ivory, slaves and spices. Dream on the magnificent beaches of the island into the day or go here individually on a discovery tour!

Day 1   Flight to Nairobi
With your Rail & Fly ticket included in the travel price, you can easily reach the airport Frankfurt. With an intermediate landing in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, we fly to Nairobi overnight.

Day 2   Nairobi - Nanyuki
We reach Kenya's capital at noon as scheduled. With a WORLD INSIGHT sign and a smile, your guide will be waiting for you! We leave Nairobi behind us and drive through the fertile highlands with a small stop just before Karatina towards Nanyuki. You like a first African Chai or coffee? After about 4 hours driving, while we get the first important information from our tour guide, we reach the Laikipia Plateau and, with good visibility, have a look at Mount Kenya, after Kilimanjaro the second highest mountain in Africa. We arrive at Nanyuki in the evening and check in at our hotel - take a break and refresh yourself after the long journey. If you are hungry, the chef will prepare you a delicious meal; 250 km – 1 overnight at Beisa Hotel or at Lions Court Lodge in Nanyuki.

Day 3   Nanyuki - Samburu National Reserve
We start our day around 8:30 a.m. with a short visit to the supermarket, because we cover up for our picnic during our game drive. The journey to the Samburu National Reserve takes about 2 hours. It is considered a paradise for animal observation: Among other animals we will spot reticulated giraffes, Somali ostriches and Grevy zebras. We stop for a picnic at a beautiful spot. Because we have not yet seen much of the local animal world, we will stay the next two nights directly in the national reserve. In the evening, we enjoy the delicious buffet of our lodge and then enjoy the view from the terrace of our bungalow - our dream of Africa will come true; 140 km – 2 overnights at Samburu Sopa Lodge in Samburu-National Reserve (B/D).

Day 4   Samburu / Buffalo Springs National Reserve - a whole day!
The sun of Africa awakens us early - at 6.30 a.m. we want to go on game drive, it's worth it! It is still cool and lions and other predators may be watched while hunting. After around 2 hours we return to the lodge for breakfast. The following extensive game drive shows us how varied the landscape is. No question that elephants, buffaloes, gazelles and many other animals feel comfortable here! For lunch buffet we are back in our lodge. Then cool off in the pool! At 4 p.m. we meet again and go on game drive until sunset - just fantastic in the evening light (B/L/D).

Day 5   Samburu / Buffalo Springs National Reserve - Nakuru
We set off at around 8:30 a.m. and collected last impressions at Samburu national reserve during a game drive, then we continue towards Nakuru. Did you feel it? We just crossed the equator, time for a group photo! We stop for a second time in Nyahururu, where we enjoy our lunch package. Here we have 2 options: desire for a small siesta in the countryside or visit the 75 m high Thomson Falls (optional). In the late afternoon, we reach our today's destination Nakuru - again we stop at a local supermarket, where you can buy some drinks and snacks. In our accommodation you can also enjoy delicious curries with chapati; 320 km – 1 overnight at Milimani Guest House, at Nuru Palace Hotel or at Eagle Palace Hotel in Nakuru (B/L).

Day 6   Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, we proceed with luggage: The coming hours are all about Lake Nakuru National Park. It is considered one of the main attractions in the Rift Valley. On the one hand, the animal density is enormously high and, on the other hand, scarcely any other place is able to observe so many white and black rhinos. We will also be able to admire the diverse bird world, even if the masses of lesser flamingos no longer exist due to the increased water level. Of course, a view over the lake from one of the viewpoints can not be missed - also a wonderful place for our picnic in the park! After we have sighted, we continue in the afternoon to Naivasha. Our campsite is located on a hill outside the city and the spacious tents are already built for us. A restaurant with bar and pool is also part of the grounds, from which one has a great view over the landscape of the Rift Valley and to Lake Naivasha. For dinner we can taste the international or African specialties offered and end the evening at the camp fire; 90 km – 3 overnights at Lake Naivasha, Camping (B).

Day 7   Hell’s Gate National Park
The night is short and comfortable shoes should be packed for today: around 7.30 a.m.we drive past many flower farms to Hell's Gate National Park where we meet our local guide. From here, we will first leave our minibus. We decide whether we prefer to walk (about 2.5 hours, easy) or to ride by bike (optional) on the road! In the park, we are looking at the landscape and the animal world from a new perspective: zebras, warthogs and gazelles, as well as giraffes and baboons. After our picnic at the entrance to the gorge, the hikers of us will be able to explore it (about 1.5 hrs medium) and enjoy even more fascinating nature. All others are taken back to the campsite. Would you like to relax at the pool; 70 km (B).

Day 8   Lake Naivasha - a full day!
Have breakfast today on the beautiful terrace with a wonderful view into the valley! The day is yours and there are countless optional leisure activities in this region! Would you like to visit a school project (on weekdays) or to walk to a nearby flower farm? A good opportunity to get in touch and learn a lot about life here. If you want to be active, you should not miss the ascent to the 2.777 m high and still active volcano Mt. Longonot - sweaty but unforgettable! Grandiose views are guaranteed. Cozy, but no less exciting, it goes with a game walk on Crescent Island, too! Or simply relax by the pool of the camp. Would you like to know how to cook samosas and chapati? This evening you have the opportunity to participate in a small cooking course. Then enjoy it (B)!

Day 9   Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara
In the light of the morning sun various water birds, but also hippos at Lake Naivasha can be observed. A good reason to get up early and participate in a boat trip (optional, about 1 hour) - but because we also have a heart for long sleepers, this program point was deliberately not included in the travel price. But for everyone, the most beautiful dreams come to an end and because the reality is even more beautiful, we continue through Rift Valley, stop in Narok, where we picnic on the edge of Loita Plains until we reach our camp at Masai Mara to reach. The next 2 nights we sleep in fixed, simple tents with real beds and private bath / WC. From here, we can see in the distant pastures of Masai cows, which cross the fields. With a "sopa", the traditional greeting of the Masai, we are welcomed - simple but tasty dinner awaits us in the middle of a beautiful landscape; 230 km – 2 overnights at Fisi Camp, at Mara Sidai Tented Camp or at Masai Mara Manyatta Tented Camp at the National Reserve (B/D).

Day 10 Masai Mara - nature & culture
In the midst of this splendid nature, we can easily get up early. Before  breakfast and sunrise, we peek at spotted hyenas and other robbers and as if we had been ordered, we meet countless wildebeests, zebras, impalas, giraffes and elephants. Who booked a balloon trip (optional) starts the day already at 4.00 a.m. To visit a Masai village we meet again. It is not one of these touristic tourist villages, but one in which tradition is still really lived and with which we are closely connected thanks to our country manager Heike Hollwitz. All this does not exclude the discreet sale of souvenirs and some folklore - although this takes place in a beautiful setting, finally we want to learn about the art and culture of the Masai. An English-speaking Masai from the village accompanies us on our tour through the narrow dark dwellings and explains many peculiarities of this fascinating people. After we have visited his village, our local guide leads us to the local weekly market. The colors are turbulent, goats also change the owners, as well as amulets and other curiosities. For a late lunch, we will come back to our camp for a rest - before the next exciting game drive until sinset through the endlessly savannah (B/L/D).

Day 11 Masai Mara - Lake Victoria
Let's get up early again! The route to the Tanzanian border is long and can range from 5 to 8 hours depending on weather, road conditions and necessary route changes. If the weather permits, we will cross the Masai Mara, then we will drive up the Oloololo Escarpment on the western side and take a great view back to Masai Mara. At noon we reach the border to Tanzania. Our guide helps us with the formalities and also the visa we get quickly. Our luggage is packed into the jeeps and we welcome our new drivers and tour guides from Tanzania. It is still 2 to 3 hours drive, then we reach the Kijereshi Tented Camp - not far away is the second largest lake in the world, Lake Victoria. Make yourself at home in the camp, culinary it is the menu of the camp to discover; 380 and 550 km respectively - 1 overnight at Speke Bay Lodge or Matvilla Beach Lodge at Lake Victoria or at Kijereshi Tented Camp in Kijereshi Game Reserve (B/L).

Day 12 Lake Victoria - Serengeti National Park
After the long ride yesterday, you can sleep today! Never tired ones will do a village tour with boat trip on Lake Victoria (optional). On this optional excursion, we stroll together through a typical fishing village. Maybe you have already learned a few words of Kiswahili during the journey and can greet the villagers with it. A warm welcome and a lot of laughter, we will receive even without language skills, especially the children of the village school are looking forward to the exotic Europeans. Afterwards, we cross Lake Victoria - a fresh breeze and colorful bird world accompany us. 2 hours drive will bring us into the world-famous Serengeti at noon: Zebras, wildebeests, gazelles and antelopes cross our paths in the afternoon before we reach the Central Serengeti. Here are our already established tents and the local chef prepares dinner already. Especially in high season you do not have the exclusive location in the middle of nature alone - nevertheless it is always an unforgettable experience, to sleep without fence in the middle of the wilderness and and to listen to the sounds of the animals; 150 km - 2 nights in Serengeti National Park, camping (B/D).

Day 13 Serengeti National Park - a full day!
We are doing a full day game drive - the chances of seeing lions, buffaloes and other big animals are great! With some luck, we can even spot a leopard, who usually dusts in trees during the day. The birds of the savannah are usually rather plainly dressed. Only the colorful male weaver birds, who build their artful nests at the ends of branches, are true color spots. When, how and where we will have lunch today depends on us - either with packed lunch or as  lunch at the camp, as you wish! After many great animal observations, we are  back at the campsite for the sunset . From afar, we hear the laughter of  hyenas and the growling of the lions in the evening (B/L/D).

Day 14 Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater
Animals are early risers and so we start today again directly after sunrise with our first short game drive (alternatively: also in the Serengeti you can book a flight with the hot air balloon this morning). After breakfast at the camp we pack our things and proceed to southern Serengeti. Here the grass is usually very short and hardly a bush or tree manages to dig its roots deep enough into the hard ground. An ideal area for cheetahs and gazelles. Both excellent sprinters, who prefer to live in this region, because lions or leopards in the almost uncovered area have little chance of doing a kill. Then we leave the Serengeti and drive up Ngorongoro Highland. Our campsite is located not far from the edge of the crater. Friendly Masai offer to accompany us towards a viewpoint against a smalltip, because elephants are still wandering up here in the wooded area. The view into the crater is overwhelming, because although it goes down steeply up to 600 m, you can see elephants and other animal groups from up here! Our tents have already been rebuilt and we still have some residual heat, because the night is cold at 2,300 m altitude sometimes below 5 °C. After supper, we sit at the camp fire before we crawl into our sleeping bags; 130 km - 1 overnight at Ngorongoro Crater, camping (B/L/D).

Day 15 Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha
In the twilight, we wake up - here, too, we are leaving at 6:30 a.m. to get down into Ngorongoro Crater. On the crater floor we are doing a game drive to spot the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceros and buffaloes. But also hippos, wildebeest and gazelles as well as many birds live here in a confined space. Only giraffes are not able to climb the steep crater walls. We picnic in the crater itself, then stop at the graves of Michael and Bernhard Grzimek, continue through the fertile region of Karatu and stop at the Rift Valley viewpoint. Towards early evening we reach the lively Arusha. After the days of camping we are pleased about the simple comfort of our room and the possibility of a city to go out again - if you are looking for a good restaurant, your guide will gladly give you tips; 180 km - 1 overnight at Mc Elly’s Hotel or at Graceland Hotel or at Saruni River Lodge in Arusha (B/L).

Day 16 Arusha - Zanzibar
Well and woe from centrally located hotels: good to go out, but to sleep rather loud, because early in the morning Arusha's city center awakes to life with the call of the muezzin and the horn of Matatus! You will take it easy, because around noonyour flight is waiting for you, which will bring you and your travel group to the spice island of Zanzibar. There is our English-speaking transferguide, which takes us to our hotel on the east of the island: pool, sun, beach and sea; 90 km - 4 overnights at Hotel Casa del Mar, at Zanzibar Star Resort or at Hotel Dongwe Ocean View on Zanzibar (B).

Day 17-19 Beach holiday on Zanzibar
After many hardships, recovery is announced. If you like, book a trip to the bustling Stone Town or swim with dolphins in Menai Bay (optional) (B).

Day 20 Departure to Germany
Wih a nnice teint and well recovered? One last bath in the sea or a beach walk? Around noon you will be taken to Stone Town Airport and fly back to Germany via Addis Ababa; 60 km (B)

Day 21 Arrival in Frankfurt
We arrive in Frankfurt during the day. Now it's time to say goodbye to your travel group. With your included Rail & Fly ticket you can travel comfortably back to your home town.

(B = Breakfast / L = Lunch / D = Dinner)
