Kenya and Tanzania are blessed with some of the most beautiful national parks of earth and paradise for animal and nature lovers.

We discover world-famous national parks on this trip - in a relaxed way with overnight stays in beautiful lodges. Watch rare Rothschild giraffes, antelopes and maybe rhinos in Lake Nakuru National Park. And we have a great opportunity to see the Big Five: Kenya's Masai Mara or Tanzania's Serengeti! Both parks belong together, but depending on the season, there are more animals on either side of the border, so the inclusion of both nature reserves in a trip makes perfect sense. We also do a walk: On the idyllic Lake Elementaita with its colorful bird life - on this lake accompanied by a Masai. The unique wildlife of the Ngorongoro Crater completes our safari - and we spend the night in the game reserve! A highlight waits for us at the end of our stay on Zanzibar. Ships from all over the world anchored here until the 19th century to trade in ivory, slaves and spices. Stroll through the picturesque lanes of Stone Town and then dream on beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean into the day. Let yourself be enchanted by East Africa!

Day 1  Departure from Germany
Your journey to East Africa begins with your flight from Frankfurt via Doha (on flights with Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa) to Nairobi. To enable you to travel to the airport in an environmentally friendly manner, we have included a Rail & Fly ticket in your travel package.

Day 2  Nairobi - Lake Elementaita
We reach Kenya's capital at midday according to schedule. With a WORLD INSIGHT sign and a smile, your guide will be waiting for you! We leave the city directly behind us and drive with a stop at the Rift Vally view point to Lake Elementaita. This small jewel in the Rift Valley impresses with an enormous variety of species - especially the bird world of the lake is colorful. Our lodge with African flair is close to the lake and we enjoy from the terrace a magnificent view and nature! Accompanied by a Masai, we take a guided walk in the late afternoon (about 2 hours, easy) to follow the feathered nature. Come and have a culinary experience in Kenya: the evening at our welcome dinner; 150 km – 2 overnights at Jacaranda Lake Elementaita Lodge (D).

Day 3  Lake Nakuru National Park - a full day!
Early in the morning we leave for the nearby Lake Nakuru National Park. Chances are good to meet predators such as leopards and lions. And many representatives of over 450 different bird species, too! At noon we relax with a picnic under an acacia in the middle of nature and with a view over the lake. Afterwards, we do not need to be lucky enough to see very rare pachyderms in the park: white and black rhinos! The park is home to another rare animal species: the Rothschild giraffe. Only a few hundred copies exist in Kenya and Uganda. Here in Lake Nakuru National Park they have found a safe refuge. Returning to our lodge is time to jump into the pool before enjoying dinner and ending the evening by the fireplace; 60 km (B/L/D).

Day 4  Lake Nakuru - Maasai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy your breakfast - in the light of the morning sun we can see different water birds at Lake Elementaita! At 08:00, we load our luggage into the bus and continue through the Rift Valley, stop in Narok, where we picnic on the edge of the Loita Plains until we reach our camp in the Masai Mara in the late afternoon. On our way to the accommodation, we already cross a part of the famous and beautiful wildlife sanctuary: giraffe, cheetah and gazelle wait for our visit! Our accommodations are all beautifully situated in nature. Whether it is with a view of the river or the savannah, a real safari feeling is always present; 280 km – 2 overnights at Sentrim Mara Tented Camp or Mara River Lodge or Mara Eden Safari Camp (B/L/D).

Day Maasai Mara National Reserve - a full day!
Nowhere else one can find so much wildlife as in the Masai Mara. Experience it today! As if they had been ordered, we meet wildebeest, zebras, impalas, buffaloes, topis, giraffes and elephants. And if we speak of "with some luck", we speak of "quite sure", we also meet the king of animals, the lion! Our game drives through the seemingly endless savannah to the Mara river, where we meet hippos and crocodiles. In the meantime, we are taking a picnic under a shady acacia. From the middle / end of July to the beginning of November, huge wildebeest and zebra herds come from Serengeti to Masai Mara. But also during the other seasons we will be overwhelmed by the animal observations! At around 5:30 p.m., we are back in our beautiful camp: Today the only thing to do is to enjoy the evening treats and a romantic starry sky (B/L/D).

Day Maasai Mara National Reserve - Serengeti National Park
Today we have to start early! We have a long journey across the border to Tanzania and depending on the weather, road conditions and necessary route changes, we are on the way for the first stage between 3 and 5 hours. Around noon we reach the Tanzanian border. Our tour guide helps us with the formalities and our visa we get quickly. Our luggage moves into the other jeep and we welcome our Tanzanian drivers and tour guide. It is still a 4 to 5 hours drive, then we reach our accommodation in the Serengeti National Park. After a refreshing shower, we enjoy the first time the kitchen of Tanzania for dinner; 340 km – 2 overnights at Serengeti Acacia Tented Camp*** or at Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp***(*) or at Lobo Wildlife Lodge*** (B/L/D).

Day Serengeti National Park
We are doing full day game drive: the chances of seeing lions, buffaloes and other big animals are great! With a little luck we can even spot a leopard, who usually dusts in trees during the day. The birds of the savannah are usually rather plainly dressed. Only the colorful male weavers, who erect their artful nests at the ends of branches, are true colors. When, how and where we lunch today depends on us - either as a lunch package in the shade of the acacias or at the camp! For sunset we are after many great animal observations definitely back, in the luggage certainly unforgettable recordings! In the evening at the cozy gathering around the campfire, we may hear the laughing of hyenas and the roaring of the lions (B/L/D).

Day 8  Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Animals are early risers and so we start again directly after sunrise with a short game drive (alternatively: also in the Serengeti you can book a flight with the hot air balloon this morning). After breakfast at our camp, we pack our things and then go on game drive to the southern Serengeti. Here the grass is usually very short and hardly a bush or tree manages to dig its roots deep enough into the hard ground. An ideal area for cheetahs and gazelles. Both excellent sprinters, who prefer to live in this region, because lions or leopards in the almost uncovered area have little chance to hunt succesfully. Then we leave the Serengeti and drive up the Ngorongoro Highland. We reach our splendidly situated accommodation in the late afternoon: the expanse of the Milky Way and the sounds of an African night round off our exciting day; 140 km – 1 overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge or Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge (B/L/D).

Day 9  Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha
At dawn we drive down Ngorongoro Crater (UNESCO World Heritage Site). On the crater floor, we are on the "Big Five" game: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceros and buffaloes. But also hippos, wildebeest and gazelles as well as many birds live here in a confined space. Only giraffes are not able to climb the steep crater walls. We picnic in the crater itself, take a stop at the graves of Michael and Bernhard Grzimek, continue through the fertile area of Karatu and then stop at Rift Valley Viewpoint. Towards early evening we reach the lively Arusha. Our accommodation is situated in the middle of a beautiful garden: Time to relax! If you want to go out after dinner in the city, our guide has tips for you; 150 km – 1 overnight at Karama Lodge or Zawadi House (B/L/D).

Day 10  Arusha - Zanzibar (Stone Town)
After breakfast, you can enjoy the garden and look forward to explore Zanzibar. At noon, your plane will take you to Spice Island. At the airport, our English speaking transferguide is already expecting us and brings us to our hotel in the middle of Stone Town. Our tip: Enjoy a drink on the roof terrace with a view over the city and the sea, before you plunge into the bustle and nightlife of the city! Stone Town is a melting pot of cultures - let yourself drift through the narrow streets of the picturesque Old Town with its authentic flair, stroll past the Sultan's Palace, the Arab Fort and the Cathedral; 20 km – 1 overnight at Best Western Plus Zanzibar*** in Stone Town (B).

Day 11 - 13  Zanzibar (from Stone Town to the East Coast)
After breakfast, there is still time for a guided city tour (optional) or a walk on your own. In the early afternoon, a transfer of about 45 minutes takes us to our beautiful beach hotel at the east coast of the island: pool, sun, beach and sea await us in this tropical paradise. If you feel like it, book a trip to the Jozani Forest or swim with dolphins in Menai Bay (optional) (B).

Day 14  Zanzibar - Flight to Germany
You got a nice teint and recovered well? One last bath in the sea or a walk on the beach? Around noon, you will be transferred to Zanzibar Airport and fly back to Germany via Doha (on flights with Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa); 70 km (B).

Day 15 Arrival in Germany
We land in Frankfurt in the morning. If you are not from the Main metropolis, use your included Rail & Fly ticket to get to your home town in an environmentally friendly manner.
